Hello everyone and welcome to my blog.
I'm really looking forward to creating an engaging environment where writers can share ideas and tips, and have a bit of fun along the way.
Whether you're an established writer, or a budding newbie looking for inspiration, there'll be something for everyone here.
So, a little bit about who I am - I make my living writing technical documents and financial articles, but my first love is fiction. I luuurve to write fiction - particularly history with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure.
I have one book published so far called All That & Everything. It's a collection of short stories, and I'm chuffed to say many of them won awards. At the moment I'm in the process of publishing my first novel - Torn.
So that's a really nice segue into one of my favourite tips that I always give to writers. It doesn't matter if you're just starting out or if you've been writing for a while - enter a competition! All That & Everything came about because after a few successful entries, I realised I actually could write! I'd never have known that if I hadn't taken the plunge.
There's always a comp running somewhere regardless of your genre so find one that suits you, write that story, article, poem - whatever you like - and get it out there. It's one of the best ways to build your confidence as a writer.
Have you experienced similar success when entering competitions? If so, I'd love to hear about it.
The competition I have for you today is the 2013 Peter Cowan 600 Short Story Competition . I found this advertised on the 'net and it looks good to me, but have a look at it for yourself. The closing date is 29 March 2013.
Bye for now and happy writing!
