Wattpad? What's that?
I heard about Wattpad a while ago while chatting with a friend. Imagine my consternation ... I mean, here I am, a writer, and I'd never heard of Wattpad!
So I asked my friend, What is Wattpad? She explained: basically it's an online facility where writers upload unpublished books, short stories, poems, etc for subscribers to read.
Sounds great, right? Well yeah, and it gets better. It's free!
Yup - gratis!
Enter your details, tell Wattpad what your favourite genres are and voila!
My plan, going forward, is to upload my Counterpoint stories to Wattpad, thus opening them up to the wider public. You might recall I talked about Counterpoint in my last post. Now complete after nearly three years, they're ready for the next stage of their career.
Of course, those of you who already subscribe to Counterpoint, have had the jump on everyone else. Additionally, you've had the 'pre-edited' versions which means you've had access to the 'un-cut' stories - they're more raw than the ones that will be loaded.
Also, people reading Counterpoint will probably find them more relevant if they've already read Torn and Inviolate, as most of you have. Then, as you follow Patrick though his adventures, you'll have context.
Before Counterpoint is released on Wattpad, it will be edited to within an inch of its life. Unfortunately, that isn't the case with a lot of the material on Wattpad, but then that's what it's all about right? Giving budding writers an opportunity to strut their stuff to a real-live audience.
Another fun opportunity is the Wattpad Writing Competition. Writers are provided the opportunity to enter writing competitions specific to their genre.
Wattpad provides an environment in which writers and readers marry up in the best possible way - within the pages of a great read.
So, at the risk of sounding like an advertisement for Wattpad, I suggest you at least check it out. Who knows, you may discover the next J.K. Rowling or Stephen King! Get on it!
See you in 14!
